Kudobox

For agencies

Your best work is under an NDA

The campaign that tripled somebody's revenue is the one you may not name. So the testimonial has to be about you rather than about their numbers — and that is a question you have to ask deliberately.

Why it is hard here specifically

Agency testimonials fail in two directions at once: a client who can say nothing specific gives you “great to work with”, and a client who can say something specific gives you a figure their legal team will later ask you to remove.

What Kudobox does about it

  1. Ask about the working relationship, not the result

“What were you worried about before you hired us?” produces a publishable sentence from a client who cannot mention a single number.

  2. Take the figure out without rewriting the sentence

When a client does name a number and later regrets it, the span comes out and the rest stands as written — and the reader is told something was removed.

  3. One project per client, with its own form

Different questions for a retainer and for a one-off build, because they are different pieces of work and produce different sentences.

  4. A wall per service line

The prospect looking for paid media should not have to read six testimonials about brand work first.

The questions worth asking

Copy these into your form and change them to sound like you. Each one is written to produce a sentence you could actually publish — which is the whole difference between a testimonial and a compliment.

  1. What were you trying to fix when you came to us?
  2. What had you already tried?
  3. What was the first thing that changed?
  4. What is it like working with us week to week?
  5. What would you say to somebody weighing us up against another agency?
  6. Is there anything you would want us to do differently?

The limit, said plainly

Kudobox does not read your client's contract and cannot tell you what your NDA allows. It records what your client agreed to here, and enforces that — the agreement they signed with you is still yours to honour.
